A scene from Arthur Christmas

Arthur Christmas (3D) revolves around how Santa and his elves pack and deliver presents to every child around the world on Christmas Eve. The hustle and bustle in Santa’s family-run high-tech control room in the North Pole provokes your imagination and the setting is quite believable in today’s world of super gizmos. The concept is fresh and innovative and the movie restores the belief of every child in Santa and Christmas presents, and that giving can be as rewarding as receiving.

Arthur (James McAvoy) is Santa’s (Jim Broadbent) clumsy younger son who is in charge of replying to children’s letters to Santa and he is absolutely passionate about his job. His elder brother Steve (Hugh Laurie) is the ambitious sibling who looks forward to being the next Father Christmas.

Arthur, with his Grandsanta (Bill Nighy) and the ‘gift-packaging expert’ elf Bryony, is determined to deliver the last gift before Christmas Day. They embark on an adventure across the world on a sleigh, hoping to reach their destination before dawn. Bryony is adorable as the perfectionist packer who lends Arthur full support in his expedition.

The adventure across mountains, seas and beaches breaks the monotony of continuously watching the snow-covered North Pole. The 3D effect has been well utilised in the flying scenes, yet being a Christmas movie, it could have very well been employed to lure kids with goodies.

The movie isn’t all that funny, yet there are some scenes that tickle the funny bone. It is disappointing that the movie didn’t make it to India before Christmas.
