It might have been enquiring about what action the Indian Olympic Association plans to take against Suresh Kalmadi but the IOC today said it will not impose sanctions on the tainted IOA President as he has suspended himself from the job.

The IOA, in its executive board meeting, had decided that since Kalmadi will not exercise his powers, there was no need to take any action, following repeated letters from IOC regarding the status of the former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman.

The IOC executive board today discussed the situation after IOA acting president V K Malhotra communicated the decision to the world body.

IOC vice president Thomas Bach was quoted by the 'Associated Press' as saying that since Kalmadi has effectively suspended himself and "in the end he's not in charge."

Bach said "the result is the same" so there is no need to impose sanctions against him or the IOA.

The International body had written many letters asking the status of the disgraced administrators, who is fighting corruption allegations in the organisation of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
