MLAs use cars without numbers plates, come under Speaker's fire

Last Updated 13 March 2012, 20:54 IST

Jharkhand Assembly Speaker C P Singh on Tuesday admonished some legislators for allegedly driving into the Assembly premises in cars with no number plates.

“Becoming an MLA, a minister or an official doesn’t provide a license to drive cars without number plates. You should follow the law. A common person is fined by the police if caught without number plate,” Singh said in the state Assembly.

The admonishment came after CPI (ML-Liberation) MLA Vinod Kumar Singh raised the issue in the House.

When HRD minister Baijnath Ram told the Speaker that registration took time for new vehicles, the speaker said, “Every new vehicle is given a temporary number till the owner gets a permanent one.”

Later, the Speaker took strong exception to Congress MLA Chandrasekhar Dubey accusing the chair of not giving him a chance on calling attention motions. “I am sorry that you have raised an accusing finger at the chair. I have given chance to all. I can show you the record,” Singh said.
