<p>In November last year, following a media expose, Priyank, son of Union Minister for Labour Mallikarjun Kharge, surrendered to the BDA a prime housing site allotted to him under ‘G’ category. Now he wants the plot back, so he can have a site swap with an MLA.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The BDA obliged, in disregard of rules that forbid re-allotting a surrendered site to the original allottee.<br /><br />In March 2012, Priyank Kharge and an MLA belonging to his party, Dr Sharan Prakash Rudrappa Patil, made a joint representation to the BDA for exchanging their sites allotted under the ‘G’ category. <br /><br />BDA Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena sanctioned it, allegedly violating rules that were laid down by the agency he headed. According to RTI activists, a site that has been returned by an allottee cannot be given back to the same person.<br /><br />On November 2, 2011, Priyank Kharge returned his 50x80 site allotted on January 9, 2006, by the BDA. Some time later, “seeking” more time and being “misled” by certain BDA officials, Kharge asked for the same site to be re-allotted to him and withdrew his application for the cancellation of the allotment. This, after having constructed a three-storey building worth close to Rs 1.5 crore on the 50x80 site at no.1089/A in III stage, HSR Layout.<br /><br />After their joint representation for mutual exchange of both their “G” Category sites. Patil on October 9, 2007, was allotted the ‘G’ Category site by the BDA in site no.274, V block, I Stage of HBR Layout. Surprisingly, Kharge made the representation to the BDA, along with Patil, for a smaller dimension site (40x60) as opposed to the larger site (50x80) allotted to him in the posh HSR Layout, according to documents procured under RTI by B M Shivakumar.<br /><br />Priyank Kharge confirmed to Deccan Herald: “We are not willing to keep the site under such controversies. I will be returning the site allotted to me as soon as possible.”<br /><br />This would mean that the site now in possession of Kharge at HBR Layout will be returned. <br /><br />On why he decided to repossess the site which he had relinquished, Kharge said he was “misled” by certain BDA officials that since the matter of ‘G’ Category sites were pending at various levels of judiciary, it would have no bearing on whether he kept the site or not. <br />“Nonetheless, the Kharge family does not wish to keep any controversial sites allotted to us,” he said.<br /><br />Priyadarshini Kharge, sister of Priyank, had returned the site she owned in the Judicial Layour, following a Deccan Herald report.</p>
