<p>Farmers of Vemagal hobli have demanded intervention of Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda to decide the minimum rate as compensation for farmers who have donated land for industrial development work.<br /><br /></p>.<p>They also accused the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board of fixing a low rate as compensation for the farmers.<br /><br />They have also warned of not permitting land acquisition if the farmers at Kuragal, Harjenahalli, Perjenahalli and Shingehalli, who have donated their land for industrial development, do not get the right price.<br /><br />Price fixed<br /><br />“Former Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar Meena, who had discussed the matter with farmers, had suggested payment of about Rs 35 lakh per acre of land. The KIADB, however, has apparently decided during a meeting on Saturday to pay only Rs 28 lakh per acre. The farmers are disappointed with the news,” they said.<br /><br />The Chief Minister, whom V R Sudarshan, Member of Legislative Council, had met on December 12, 2011, had promised to consider the rate fixed by the Deputy Commissioner. Later, farmers led by Sudarshan had submitted a request to Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani, District In-charge Minister R Varthur Prakash, Union Minister K H Muniyappa, Department general secretary and KIADB managing director.<br /><br />Devoid of controversy<br /><br />Farmers were also appeased to give up land for the industrial area without giving way to any legal controversy. The farmers had also come to a consensus on February 8, 2010, on donating land in Kuragal and Vemagal Gram Panchayats.<br /><br />Meetings of farmers were also organised later at Vemagal Travellers’ Bungalow by the KIADB, where it was requested that the optimal rate for land be fixed at a minimum of Rs 60 lakh and maximum of Rs 70 lakh per acre. <br /><br />There were other requests including jobs for local residents, priority to local industrialists, waive of stamp duty for farmers who have donated land and wish to buy land elsewhere.<br /><br />Analysis<br /><br />Former DC Meena had initially suggested Rs 25 lakh per acre. Later, however, the KIADB had requested him on March 19 to analyse the matter again. In response, Meena had undertaken the analysis and written to the KIADB that the land could be rated at Rs 35 lakh an acre.<br /><br />“The KIADB, however, has failed to follow the rates set already, which is an act of injustice to us,” said the farmers.<br /><br />Vemagal Gram Panchayat former president Narayanaswamy, B Nagaraj, leaders of farmers in the four villages of the industrial area Shivakumar, Khaleel, Venkatesh, Basavarajappa, Manjunath, V S Narayanaswamy, Venkateshappa, Eeshwarappa, and others expressed displeasure at the developments.<br /></p>
