Leopard menace worries Hirisave villagers

A leopard killed a dog at Jinnenahalli in Hirisave hobli of Hassan district, on Wednesday. The incident has sent shockwaves among the residents here, for, such incidents are becoming frequent. Last year, more than 20 cattle heads were killed by the big cat.

The dog owned by Channegowda was tied outside the house. The leopard attacked and killed it in the wee hours and tried to drag it. The sound of the chain on the dog’s neck alerted a family member, who came out to check. As soon as he saw the leopard, he raised an alarm and the leopard escaped.
The residents are now scared to go to their farms, even during the day.

They say three leopards were spotted at Jinnenahalli over the past three days. The residents complained that the Forest department officials have not initiated any action to catch the big cat, in spite of complaining for the past two years.
