Rakesh, 8, of Majara Venkatapur village in the taluk, died of suspected dengue fever on Thursday at the Kolar Medical College.

Rakesh had been suffering from fever for four days before being admitted to a private hospital. When the fever did not subside he was moved to the Kolar Medical Hospital for further treatment, but did not survive.

Earlier cases

Last month, a child from the same village had died of fever. The death is also suspected as being caused by dengue. Though the issue had been brought to notice of the Health Department, no action had been taken, alleges Ramachandrappa Reddappa of the village.

Following Rakesh’s death, however, former president of the Taluk Panchayat C V Gopal has directed that a team of doctors in the public hospital visit people at their homes to check that the disease has not spread.
