Sitting on footpath proves fatal for woman

A 40-year-old woman, sitting on a footpath on Boodigere-Devanahalli main road, was run over by a speeding motorcycle on Tuesday afternoon.

Police have identified the deceased as Muniyamma, 40, a resident of the nearby Gollahalli Gate. The motorcycle rider is Sudhish, 18, a student and resident of Kadugodi.

Muniyamma, who was waiting for a bus to Devanahalli, was sitting on the raised footpath on the main road with her daughter Anisha, 6, and another woman.

Sudhish, who was on his way to Nandi Hills from Bangalore, was speeding when he lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. He ran over all three people on the footpath.

 Muniyamma, who sustained severe head injuries, died instantly. Her daughter, Anisha and the other woman (yet to be identified) sustained minor injuries.

Sudhish drove into a gutter behind the footpath and was also injured. All injured are being treated at a nearby private hospital.

The Chikkajala Traffic police have registered a case against Sudhish and are investigating.

TN youth killed

A 20-year-old youth who had come to the City in search of a job was struck down by a private bus when he was crossing the road in Electronics City on Tuesday morning.

Police have identified the deceased as Muttu Chakravarthy, a resident of Erode, Tamil Nadu.

Chakravarthy had come to the City on Monday and had been staying in a friend’s room at Roopena Agrahara. He was crossing the road near the Agrahara when a speeding private bus from Tamil Nadu mowed him down. He died on the spot.

Electronics City Traffic police have arrested Srinivas, the driver of the private bus.
