Students and teachers started vomiting while few more complained of burning sensation in the eyes and throat following the leak of foul-smelling gas. The employees in the nearby industrial estate, and farmers working in nearby fields too had similar experience. However, no casualties have been reported.
The gas leaked from Unique Laboratories, which manufactures life saving medicines. The production was started in the unit for the first time only on Wednesday and has been stopped on account of gas leak, the Managing Director of the company, Vishweswaraiah has informed police. The principal of the BGS World School has lodged a complaint with Pollution Control Board, District Commerce and Industries Department as well as the police.
Director of Pollution Control Board Rekha, Joint Director of District Commerce and Industries Department Jayananda and CPI Shivakumar inspected the laboratory and commenced investigation. The nature of the gas is yet to be ascertained.
