Youth arrested for robbing Rs 14 lakh

Brothers shot at, two goons still at large

A youth has been arrested for robbing Rs 14.5 lakh from a telecom distributor after opening fire at Bhajanpura in north-east Delhi, police said on Saturday.

Keshar, 20, of Seelampur was held after a raid was conducted over secret information near Loni Pushta Road on Friday.

“On his personal search, a loaded country-made pistol along with two live cartridges were recovered,” said V V Chaudhary, additional commissioner of police (north-east).
He confessed that he along with gang leader Kasimulla and Rashid had waylaid Pankaj Gupta, 39, a resident of Yamuna Vihar, on August 18.

Pankaj, a Vodafone distributor, was on his way to a bank with his brother Jitender on a motorcycle when three accused opened fire.

“A probe revealed that Pankaj was carrying Rs 20 lakh in three bags. The assailants on the other hand kept firing until both the brothers fell down from the motorcycle,” Chaudhary added.

Kasimulla, Keshar and Rashid then fled from the spot with two bags in which Rs 14.5 lakh were kept, while leaving behind a bag with Rs 4.5 lakh. The two brothers were taken to nearby Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital by police control room staff.

According to sources, Jitender sustained four bullet injuries, while Pankaj sustained a bullet injury on his left hand.

“They were discharged from the hospital after treatment,” sources added. Keshar has revealed that the robbed money is yet to be distributed, and is kept with Kasimulla.
“Kasimulla and Rashid are yet to be arrested,” Chaudhary said.

Gang leader Kasimulla is involved in 12 criminal cases and recently came out of jail after six years.

A fresh case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act has been lodged with Bhajanpura police station.
