BU signs MoU with Deakin University

The research institute will be set up at the Jnana Bharati campus, and aims to produce a minimum of  200 PhDs and a maximum of 500 PhDs in the fields of bio-technology and nano-technology in the next five years.

Speaking at the signing of the MoU, Bangalore University Vice Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev said, “This is a historic occasion, for Bangalore University to collaborate on such a large project with a foreign university.” He added that the model of collaboration and financial co-operation will be devised after exploring the possibilities.

The State Government will fund the setting up of the DIRI, while Bangalore University will provide all non-financial support and infrastructure for the research centre. The two universities will collaborate in research, lectures and general exchange of resources. Prabhu Dev also revealed that the universities are looking to initially identify a small sample of 20 research scholars for the programme.

Also present at the signing of the MoU were Professor Lee Astheimer, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University and Professor Peter Hodgson, Research Director of Deakin University’s Institute of Technology Research Innovation (ITRI). Hodgson said that the focus of the agreement would be on making research and studies more industry relevant.
