Lokayukta SP meets BSY's son secretly

Last Updated 15 September 2012, 16:51 IST

A senior Lokayukta officer from Bangalore is understood to have met Shimoga MP B Y Raghavendra at the Inspection Bungalow in Shimoga on Friday evening.

According to sources, Bangalore City Lokayukta Superintendent P K Shivashankar held the hush-hush meeting with the MP.

Shimoga Deputy Commissioner M V Vedamurthy was also understood to have been present in the meeting.

When contacted, both Raghavendra and Shivashankar denied meeting each other. Shivashankar said he was on leave and was spending time with his family.

“There is some mischief being played. All these allegations are false. The report has already been submitted to court and there is no reason for me to meet him (Raghavendra). Why should I meet any politician,” Shivashankar questioned.

Lokayukta ADGP H N Sathyanarayana Rao denied having any knowledge of such a meeting, but promised to look into it. “Once he (Shivashankar) gets back, I will have to inquire into it. If there is evidence of misconduct, then depending on the seriousness, we will take action,” he said.

When asked what the action might be if there was evidence of misconduct, Rao said that it could either be shifting the official out of the department or repatriation.

In the recent past, the Yeddyurappa family has been named in a private complaint pertaining to sale of 69 acres of land in Hunasekatte of Bhadravathi taluk to Dhavalagiri Properties in the Special Lokayukta Court.

The court after taking cognizance of the case had directed the Lokayukta police of Bangalore City to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations.

Subsequently,  despite a report by the tahsildar and the Forest Department clearly stating that there was encroachment of forest and revenue land, Vedamurthy had submitted a report to the court stating there was no illegality.

The court, which pointed out this contradiction, has written to the chief secretary to take action against Vedamurthy.
