Lokayukta raids two govt officers

The Lokayukta police on Thursday registered cases against two government officials and raided their premises for possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The officials are, S V Venkatarangan, Panchayat Secretary of Bandikodigehalli village in Bangalore North taluk and K Rajanna, Assistant Sub-Inspector attached to the Siddapura police station in Bangalore.

The Lokayukta police in their FIR against Venkatarangan, the Lokayukta police in their FIR have stated that he has assets close to 320.26 per cent over and above his known sources of income.

As per the articles and property documents seized by the Lokayukta police, it is estimated that the accused government official and his family have in possession close to 14.9 acres of land and three sites all in and around Doddaballapur taluk. The total value of the land in possession of the official and his relatives is Rs 1.08 crore.

The police have also seized a Toyota Qualis and a Maruti Swift which have been registered in the name of Venkatarangan’s wife and sister-in-law. The household articles seized by the Lokayukta police have been estimated to value around Rs 22.88 lakh.

Assistant Sub-Inspector of Siddapura police station, Rajanna, has been charged by the sleuths of possessing assets close to 151.96 per cent over and above the known sources of income.

The ASI and his wife are stated to own two residential sites, one three storey building and another house under construction. The total value of the land and building has been estimated to be around Rs 47 lakh. As much as 920 grams of gold and 1.07 kg of gold have also been seized from them. The value of the articles is yet to be estimated.

Bank accounts in case of both the officials are still being scrutinised.
