Soldier's body arrives at Somwarpet

Somwarpet based Indian soldier Prashanth who was admitted to Commando Hospital in Bangalore, due to his illness, died on Wednesday.

The body of the soldier was brought to his home town.  Prashanth (34) is the son of Kothnalli based agriculturist Late H J Chinnappa and Ningamma couple. He was serving at MIRC Department in Indian army for the last 14 years and was placed at City Battalion Mechanical Infantry Department in Ahmednagara in Maharashtra prior to his death. The soldier was suffering from illness since a year and was admitted to a hospital in Pune for treatment. He was admitted to Commando hospital in Bangalore a month ago and died as he failed to respond to the treatment.

A good athlete, Prashanth had earlier served with peace force. He was about to retire in another one and half years. He is survived by his wife Rashmi, son Drishchith, mother Ningamma and two brothers.

Thousands of people gatherered in the town on Wednesday evening, when his body was brought from Bangalore. The body was kept for public view at Jaycee hall. Zilla Panchayat President Shivappa, TP President Somaiah, Tahsildar Vijaya Kumar and others paid last tribute to the dead soldier. The last rites will be held on Thursday at 2 pm at his village.
