UPA govt's scams will be its nemesis: Sadananda

Last Updated 20 March 2013, 19:17 IST

Former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Wednesday ridiculed the Congress, stating that the party only strived to make AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi the prime minister, while it remained ignorant of the burning issues facing the country and the problems of the common man.

Speaking after inaugurating the party’s yuva and farmers’ morcha conventions in Bangalore, Gowda blamed the Centre for failing to tackle cross-border terrorism, address corruption or take a firm stand on the alleged violation of human rights by Sri Lanka.

“Cross-border terrorism from Pakistan is on the rise. They are committing atrocities on our soldiers, but the UPA government is looking for closer ties with its neighbour,” Gowda said.

He said Congress had failed to take a firm stand on the violation of human rights of Tamils by Sri Lanka.

He said that the series of scams in the UPA, including those pertaining to farmers’ loans, 2G spectrum and coal would sound the death knell for the coalition in the polls. Youth and farmers of the country had the potential to change the political scenario in the country, he said.
