<p> The Special Court for CBI cases has awarded 30-month simple imprisonment to four officials who were working with Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) for causing wrongful loss to the tune of Rs 1.25 crore.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The probe agency had filed a charge sheet alleging that H N Aravind, a grade-1 technician with CIPET, had entered into a criminal conspiracy with the other accused to encash demand drafts/cheques issued in favour of CIPET by various clients and deposited them into their current account opened in the name of CIPET Poly Consulting Engineers (CIPET Mysore), during 2005-08.<br /><br /> The other three convicted are: B Ramaraj, the then senior technical officer, R Poovai Poovannan, the then technical officer and Banu H Aravind. The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 2.10 lakh on the convicted persons with a direction that the four be sent to simple imprisonment for six months in case they fail to pay the fine. The order was passed by M C Biradar, special judge.<br /><br />The press release also states that the same court on March 28 convicted D Shashireka, Inspector, Income Tax Department and sentenced her to simple imprisonment for two years. The CBI had filed a charge sheet against Shashireka under sections 7 and 13 (1) (d) read with 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.<br /><br />Charge sheet<br /><br />The charge sheet had alleged that Shashireka was caught red-handed while accepting an amount of Rs 10,000 from the complainant, U M Taranath, Chief Executive Officer, G T Enterprises, for processing the file for a lower slab of TDS deduction. The court has also directed Shashireka to pay a fine of Rs 20,000.<br />The agency has also said that V Srishananda, a special judge, has awarded simple imprisonment for three years to T Mukthamba, a retired IAS officer.<br /><br />According to the charge sheet, Mukthamba, the then project director, Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society, H T Balakrishna, the then deputy director, G M Renukaiah, the then technical assistant, Bharat Oswal, proprietor of Life Associates, Hubli had wrongly utilised funds from the Centre. Mukthamba has been directed to pay a fine of Rs 1.4 lakh.</p>
