Married for 15 days, woman ends life

A newly married woman and an electrician committed suicide in separate incidents in the City on Friday.

Shwetha, who had married Arun two weeks ago much against the wishes of her parents, hanged herself at her Rukmini Nagar residence on Friday night. According to police, Shwetha was in love with Arun, a businessman, and had eloped with him. Her parents decided to host a reception as they thought that the family’s reputation was stake on account of the secret wedding of Shwetha.

Shwetha was upset after her parents and relatives took her to task for tarnishing the family reputation. She hanged herself using her dupatta. The incident came to light on Saturday morning.

In another incident, Hemaraj, 36, an electrician was found dead, hanging from the ceiling fan at his house in Ambedkar Nagar on Friday night. According to police, Hemaraj and his wife had quarrelled over a petty issue and the latter went to her parents’ house a couple of days ago. Hemaraj was depressed after the incident. The couple had no issues, police said.
