'What has BSY achieved by winning six seats?'

Senior BJP leader K S Eshwarappa on Friday said the results of the Assembly elections have only shown how strong the KJP in the State.

“People are of the view that there was no need to float a regional party to win just six seats. Is this the achievement of B S Yeddyurappa,” he asked.

Speaking to reporters at the BJP office here, Eshwarappa claimed that, “The Congress did not bag 121 seats on its own strength. It’s the division of votes between the BJP and the KJP that helped the Congress to win the polls. Besides, the Congress had threatened Yeddyurappa that he would be sent to jail if he fails to float a new party by quitting the BJP with the sole intention of dividing the BJP votes. Hence, the Congress has won 121 seats. Yeddyurappa is responsible for this and he himself has admitted it.”

Eshwarappa said, “The defeat of the BJP is temporary and the victory of the Congress is also not eternal. The BJP has taken this defeat as a challenge and, the victory in the next Lok Sabha polls is our main goal. So, the results of the Assembly polls will not have any impact on the coming parliamentary elections.”

Voters confused

He claimed that “our voters were confused whether to back the BJP or the KJP. Their confusion led to the division of votes between these two parties, benefiting the Congress. Now, they have realised the potential of the KJP. So, now there is no confusion among our voters.”

Stating that the Congress was still not free from dissidence, Eshwarappa said the Congress workers were of the view that KPCC president G Parameshwara was defeated in Koratagere constituency due to a conspiracy. So, there is a need to discover the truth behind his defeat.

To a query on his defeat in the Shimoga Urban Assembly segment, he said, “It seems I have failed to win the hearts of voters this time. This apart, the division of votes is also the reason for my defeat. But, the constituency did not witness caste-based politics. My defeat is temporary and I accept the people’s verdict.”
