An 11-year-old boy’s eardrum was ruptured after a teacher slapped him in his school in outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala on Monday, police said.

Shahil, a student of Ganga International Public School, alleged that his physical training teacher slapped him in the school on Monday afternoon while he was playing with his friends within the premises. Shahil, who lives at Bakkarwala Village in Kanjhawala, said he was slapped “without any reason”. As soon as he reached home, he complained of severe pain in his left ear. When his parents questioned about it, he replied that his teacher slapped him without any reason.

His father took him to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where after preliminary treatment, it was found that his eardrum was ruptured. He immediately called the police control room and narrated the whole incident. “We reached the hospital and in the initial medico-legal report we found that his eardrum was damaged,” said a police officer.

On the basis of victim’s statement and medical report, we have registered a case under section 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of Indian Penal Code with Kanjhawala police station.

When police questioned physical training teacher Veer Singh, he said the school was closed for summer vacations and the management has organised a summer camp for few students in which Shahil too took part.

“While he was training students, he found Shahil throwing mud on other students. He objected once but Shahil did not pay any heed. He warned him and left. But when he returned, he found Shahil again indulged in throwing mud. Angry, he slapped Shahil,” said the investigating officer.

Veer also said he had not slapped Shahil intentionally.
