A novel underwater resort in the Maldive islands will soon become a reality. The island of Kuredhivaru has been chosen by the Ministry of Tourism for the world’s first underwater hotel, to be known as Water Discus Hotel.

Backed by Swiss investors, the Polish company Deep Ocean Technology was given the approval to begin construction. The $50 million structure will be built by a Dubai development company within the coral reefs of the picturesque island of Kuredhivaru.

The Water Discus Hotel will be supported by five spindly legs, with two large disc lounges hovering above water overlooking the scenic Maldive terrain. There will be a luxury restaurant, spa, rooftop pool and helipad. In the centre of the disc lounges will be a glass tunnel that leads to 21 underwater hotel suites that offer vibrant fish-eye views of the reefs and marine life. The hotel also plans to rebuild the coral reefs.
