Dasara half-marathon: Run for road safety, cleanliness

Dasara half-marathon this year scheduled on September 29 aims to promote road safety, press for cleaner city and ensure a healthy living for all.

Announcing this to the media here on Wednesday, P B Mitra of Life is Calling, a sports management company said that the half-marathon has been planned on the day at 6.30 am from Balarama gate of the Palace, facing Chamarajendra Wadiyar Circle.

It will be 21-km route with monuments as background covering good old buildings like deputy commissioner’s office, Crawford Hall (administrative block of the University of Mysore), scenic spots like Kukkarahalli lake, Manasagangotri to name a few. The registration fee is Rs 800. The 10 km run will be held for athletes in the age group of 16 years and 45, 45 to 60 and 60 and above, with the registration fee of Rs 600. For 10 km team relay, held in the categories of men and women, even families are invited. Registration fee is Rs 200.

There is also a five km celebration run or walk (non-competitive) for athletes in the age group of 11 years and above, involving senior citizens too. The speciality this year is 40 specially-abled children taking part in the same (run or walk). The participants will get mementoes, while the first three winners will be given medals.

Mitra said the city police was supporting the event, while Let’s Do it, Mysore, was the cause partner. Myra School of Business is the co-sponsor and Thoughtfocus Technologies is the supporting sponsor.

Police Commissioner M A Saleem said such activities will help promote the city. Similar views were echoed by Shalini Urs of the business school.
