The State government has decided to introduce biometric attendance system in all its offices in Bangalore from November 1 to ensure that employees are present in their offices during the working hours.

biometric attendance system is currently in use at the State Secretariat and some departments of the government. The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) has in a recent order directed all the departments to introduce the system in their offices in Bangalore from November.

The system will be extended to government offices at district and taluk levels in a phased manner. The respective department has to bear the cost of introducing the new attendance system.

Ever since the introduction of the system, attendance of the employees has improved substantially and less complaints are received. biometric system was introduced six years ago at the Secretariat.

The new system will put a brake on those who used to arrive late or leave early before the office hours. There were also instances where employees have marked attendance on the ledger book a day in advance. It is not possible to play such tricks in the new system.

But the government is not clear whether to collect data on employees’ attendance at the State level or local level.
