Stadiums in 53 taluk centres: Goolihatti Shekar

Several football players from Chikkaballapur living in penury

Speaking after inaugurating the state-level football tournament at Sir M Visvesvaraya district stadium here on Friday, the minister said that swimming pools of international standards are coming up in seven district centres including Chikkaballapur.

District in-charge minister Dr Mumtaz Ali Khan, who spoke on the occasion said that several football players from Chikkaballapur have now become history and were living in utter penury.

Bagepalli legislator N Sampangi said that a sum of Rs 150 crore was spent during his tenure as president of Sports Council for construction of stadiums in all the taluks. The work on such stadiums has not been completed and steps should be taken to expedite the work, he demanded.

Legislator K P Bachegowda, City Municipal Council president M Prakash, Deputy Commissioner Anwar Pasha, Zilla Panchayat vice-president Chenduru Venkatesh, Chief Executive Officer N Krishnappa, Assistant Director of Youth Services and Sports Department Rayappa and others were present.

Valedictory today

The valedictory of the tournament will be held at 3 pm in the stadium on Sunday. Union Minister for Law and Justice  M Veerappa Moily, district in-charge minister Dr Mumtaz Ali Khan, legislators K P Bachegowda, V Muniyappa, N H Shivashankara Reddy, N Sampangi, Dr M C Sudhakar, ZP president Vinuta Srinivas, vice-president Chenduru Venkatesh will be present. The tournament has been organised by district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Youth Services and Sports Department and Sports Authority of Karnataka, jointly.
