Marathon for women safety held

A marathon to create awareness on safety of women, following the infamous Delhi gang-rape incident, was held in Mysore on Sunday. The awareness marathon was organised by the students of SBRR Mahajana First Grade College at Jagadish Prasad stadium and was flagged off by Police Commissioner M A Saleem.

The marathon was titled ‘Justice Run, Nirbhaya’, in which more than 300 people of different age groups participated. A few senior citizens too participated in the run to create awareness on the growing need to ensure safety for women.

Saleem said, the society should ensure that incidents such as the gang-rape in Delhi should not occur. Awareness to prevent such crimes is the need of the hour, he said.
He said, such marathons serve dual purpose, create awareness on social concerns and help achieve physical fitness.

Principal of the college K V Prabhakara said, the student community was in the forefront while protesting against Nirbhaya incident.
