Hinn may not address prayer meet

A Christian organisation has called for a ban on the proposed visit of controversial evangelist Benny Hinn to Bangalore to address a prayer conference beginning on Tuesday. Hinn, who has reportedly backed out of the Christian Prayer Conference organised by Bethel AG Church, was to speak at the meeting, among others.

“Hinn claims he is a godman and is promoting superstitions in society. How can someone say he can eradicate diseases through miracles, asked a member of Karnataka Christians Vichara Vedike. The Congress government in the State is trying to do away with superstitious beliefs and hence it should not permit such an event, the Vedike members said. They said that if Hinn possessed powers he claimed to have, he should perhaps give sight to the blind or eradicate leprosy. Since he cannot do any of that, he should not cheat people in the name of God, they said.

Kamal Pant, Additional Commissioner (Law & Order), told Deccan Herald that the list of speakers submitted to the police seeking permission for the prayer conference did not contain Hinn’s name.
