Tackling infertility through IVF

Last Updated 30 June 2014, 19:00 IST

Having own child is everyone’s dream as babies are the only intimate bond between a man and woman. The feeling of becoming parents is just wordless.

There is no word able to describe the feeling of becoming father and mother.

On the other hand, this can be very heart breaking for couples who are unable to conceive naturally after  a year of unprotected intercourse or undergoing various treatment methods .

Today every one couple out of six is unable to conceive and seek solution for this.

It’s a fact that several  treatment methods are available nowadays because of our advanced biological science and expert research which made it possible for infertile couples to enjoy parenting even if they can’t enjoy it naturally.

Infertility can affect anyone whether female or male or sometimes both of them. In some cases the reason of infertility or exact cause of it is not determined even after various tests, hence this kind of infertility is known as unexplained infertility.

The treatments available for this trauma are based on its causes.

The most considerable treatment option when all others have failed is IVF or In Vitro Fertilisation.

IVF clinics play a vital role in infertile couple’s life.

It is the only destination which provides them appropriate solution based on their exact reason of infertility.

IVF is not the only solution for all infertility problems.

Only 10 per cent of the infertile couples may need only IVF other 90 per cent problems can be treated with many other treatment plans.

IVF is a process by which an egg is fertilised by sperm outside the body: in vitro.

IVF is a major treatment for infertility when other methods of assisted reproductive technology have failed.

The process involves monitoring and stimulating a woman’s  ovulatory process, removing ovum or ova (egg or eggs) from the woman’s ovaries and letting sperm fertilise them in a fluid medium in a laboratory.

The fertilised egg (zygote) is cultured for 2-6 days in a growth medium and is then transferred to the mother’s uterus with the intention of establishing a successful pregnancy.

Blocked or damaged fallopian, low sperm count, ovarian issues, endometriosis, unexplained infertility and other reproductive health problems are some major reasons that do not allow couple’s to conceive naturally.

IVF treatment provides solution for these problems.

Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) involves injecting a single sperm directly into an egg in order to fertilise it.

The fertilised egg  (embryo) is then transferred to the woman’s uterus. ICSI is often recommended if:

The male partner has a very low sperm count, other problems with the sperm have been identified, such as poor morphology (abnormally shaped) and/or poor motility (poor swimmers).

Spermatozoa can be retrieved from the testis and  epididymis of men with obstructive azoospermia (OA) and used for ICSI.
