Toddler mauled by strays recovering

Kumara-swamy, the one-and-a-half-year-old child who was mauled by a pack of stray dogs in JP Nagar 9th Phase on Monday morning, is recovering at the KC General Hospital.

Doctors attending to the toddler said he was being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU). Dr Vimala Patil, medical superintendent at the hospital, who gave a report of the child’s condition on Tuesday, said the team of doctors who attended to the toddler on Monday had decided to keep him in the ICU to avoid the spread of infection.

“He has been administered anti-rabies vaccine but it was very painful for him,” she added. But she ruled a fracture, saying the X-ray report on the head did not reveal any such thing.

The child ate bread, biscuits and drank milk, his father Ramesh said. “He is much better now and we hope he will be fine soon,” he told Deccan Herald. Since the family is poor, the vaccine came from the mayor’s grant, said a source.

Dogs had mauled the child near his home early on Monday morning. Two hospitals are said to have refused him treatment, after which he was taken to the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (Kims) where he was treated for some time. Later that day, he was shifted to the KC General Hospital.
