<p>The BJP has planned extensive use of Internet and cell phone in its five-month long membership drive, to be launched nation-wide from November 1.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Speaking to media here on Wednesday, BJP National General Secretary J P Nadda said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be the first party leader to have his BJP membership renewed by sending a text message from his cell phone.<br /><br />Nadda said that Modi would send the message to party National president Amit Shah, who would renew the membership. Shah will be the second leader to renew his membership by a similar method at the party headquarters in New Delhi on November 1, Nadda said.<br /><br />“The party takes up its membership drive once in six years. Earlier, those interested could become members by filling an application form. Now, we have simplified the process. Those interested can register themselves using their mobile phone or through online. We will seek their address and link them to their respective booths. Our party cadre will be contact them in the days to come,” Nadda added. <br /><br />He said the membership drive would be held till March 31, 2015. Details of mobile numbers to be contacted and process for online registration will be announced on November 1.<br /><br />Workshop<br /><br />Earlier, inaugurating a workshop on membership drive for BJP state presidents and top functionaries from southern and western states, BJP National General Secretary P Muralidhar Rao said the party should capitalise on its victory in the Lok Sabha polls to gain political dividend. <br /><br />“As many as 17 crore people across the country voted for the BJP during the Lok Sabha polls compared to eight crore votes secured in the 2009 polls. We should chalk out a strategy to transform these supporters into permanent supporters of the party,” Rao said.<br /><br />Rao, who is also the incharge of the state-unit of the party, said youth had voted for the BJP in a big way in the Lok Sabha polls. “We should work towards inducting them into the party as our permanent cadre,” he said.</p>
