If the Kasturirangan report is implemented, then it will affect agriculture and allied activities in the region.  The government should reject the report, said taluk Krishika Samaja President D L Ashok Kumar.

He was speaking at the Krishika Samaja meeting held at Agriculture department hall in Bilagula in Mudigere on Friday.

The district administration should initiate steps to provide information on Kasturirangan report to farmers. The report should be translated to local language and should be displayed in every Gram Panchayat office.

Farmers are  the backbone of the country and hence the laws should be encouraging     to farmers and not discouraging.

A resolution to urge the government to reject Kasturirangan report was passed on the occasion.

Speaking on ‘Namma Mannu Namma Anna’ scheme, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Expert Devraj said that it has been decided to implement the scheme through Krishika Samaja and a committee will be constituted for the effective implementation of the scheme in the coming days. Under the scheme, groups will be formed and cultivation will be taken up on fallow land.

Banahalli Ramesh said that with the implementation of Kasturirangan report, thousands of families will face the danger of eviction and hence farmers should fight against the report.

Krishika Samaja Secretary P K Nagesh, Daradahalli Manjunath Gowda, Agriculture department Assistant Director Kumuda and others were present.

‘Release compensation’
Untimely rain has affected the production of paddy and coffee in the taluk. The government should provide suitable compensation to farmers, said Coffee Growers Association.

In a press release, Association President B S Jayaram Gowda, Taluk Growers Association President Basavraj and Secretary Balakrishna have said that Arabica coffee beans have started withering following rain.

The coffee growers have incurred huge loss. The withering of coffee beans will aggravate the problem of borer disease.

The farmers have already lost 50 per cent of the crop during monsoon.
The centre and state governments should come to the rescue of the farmers.
