Barbie commands a loyal fan following that has only been growing. The character Barbie has always doubled up as a friend, teacher, playmate for kids, especially the girls who have always shared their deepest secrets with Barbie. Barbie trooped into the City to celebrate her 50th birthday with children who gathered in droves to be part of the big day.

The Landmark at Forum Mall was brimming with life and overflowing with kids of all age groups. While they waited anxiously for her to arrive, there were dance competitions where the children were grouped into pairs and were asked to balance a balloon between their heads and dance. One pair was declared the winner. Also each child was called on stage to express her love for Barbie and what she liked about the doll. Barbie dolls were given away as prizes. “I have always played with Barbie and I like her because she is beautiful girl. I hate boys,” said Deepa, one of the children at the event.

The children were bubbling with energy and were having a gala time dancing and shouting, ‘we love you Barbie’ and ‘you are the best’ they screamed and yelled. Then the most awaited moment arrived and Barbie walked in, all dressed in a bright pink, with a tiara sitting delicately on her head.

The children were overjoyed and went out of control. Their eyes were set on Barbie. They wanted to see and touch their favourite doll. All the children were allowed to take individual and family pictures with Barbie. Only girls came forward to take part where as the boys kept away because it was a ‘girl’ thing. Speaking to Barbie, a parent said, “I am jealous of you Barbie because my daughter spends more time with you than with me. She shares most of the secrets with you. I hope this wonderful relationship between little girls and Barbie is never broken.”
