Ola enables cashless rides in autorickshaws

Last Updated 12 March 2015, 19:20 IST

Ola has launched cashless rides through its in-app Ola money wallet for auto bookings across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad and Delhi.

Through the Ola app, customers can book an auto with one touch on their phones. Driver details are sent via SMS  and the location of the auto is traceable in real time. Customers get increased visibility of autos from around them and the nearest auto at their doorstep.

They will not have to pay cash to the drivers and the fare shall be automatically deducted from their Ola Money account. Over the last six months, about 40,000 auto drivers have signed up with Ola across India.

The Ola app helps drivers receive booking requests from customers around them and also helps them with turn-by-turn navigation to reach them.

“With cashless payments, drivers will now be saved from the hassle of carrying and finding change after every ride. Also, drivers will now have their daily earnings deposited into their account with Ola, linked to a prepaid card usable at ATMs or any merchant...” said a statement.

To pay through the in-app wallet, a customer has to simply tell the driver that the payment will be made with Ola Money. After the ride, the driver shall enter the fare displayed on the meter, followed by the four-digit OTP that the customer will receive by SMS.

Ola money is then automatically deducted from the customer’s account. Drivers can withdraw their payments anytime from the prepaid ATM card linked to their Ola account.
