Delhi CP briefs Rijiju, likely to make statement in LS

Amidst a row over the alleged snooping of Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Police chief B S Bassi today briefed Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, who is expected to make a statement in Parliament on the matter.

Rijiju will make a statement on behalf of his senior Rajnath Singh, who is in Japan.
Bassi briefed Rijiju and top Home Ministry officials, including Home Secretary L C Goyal, about the circumstances leading to the visit of a Delhi Police official to Gandhi's residence here for security profiling.

Official sources said Rijiju has prepared a note on the basis of Bassi's briefing and a statement is expected to be made in Parliament.

The move came as Congress prepares to raise the issue in Lok Sabha during Zero hour, protesting the Delhi Police move.

Rijiju is expected to tell the House that the Delhi Police exercise was nothing new but a regular process of conducting security profiling of all top leaders.

Gandhi is on a sabbatical since the start of the Budget session of Parliament on February 23. Some police officials went to his residence on March 12 and reportedly asked how he looks like and what is the colour of his eyes etc.

Congress has alleged that police visiting Rahul's residence is part of "political espionage" of the NDA government.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh is currently in Japan attending an international conference on disaster management.
