Shyamal Ghosh not at fault, says counsel

Last Updated 18 August 2015, 20:16 IST

Former Telecom secretary Shyamal Ghosh did not commit any crime in granting surplus airwaves to telecom companies as his decision was in line with the government policy, the counsel of the ex-bureaucrat told a special court defending him in the additional spectrum allocation case of 2008.

“The order passed by Ghosh was perfectly in line of the government's policy. It was identical and in parity to the government's policy,” senior lawyer Sukumar Pattjoshi told Special CBI Judge OP Saini, advancing his arguments on the point of framing charges against Ghosh and the other accused.

The CBI on Monday pressed charges against Ghosh, saying the former Telecom secretary granted radio waves to telecom companies at a “throwaway prices” acting against “the principles of policy” and caused a huge loss to public  ex-exchequer.
