In order to create awareness about the importance of voting in the BBMP elections, a number of students of BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE), in association with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), organized a ‘Votathon’ in Basavanagudi and the surrounding areas on Thursday.

Students from the college and officers from the BBMP were present at the rally.
The message given out for the public at large was simple, i.e. to motivate the citizens to cast their vote without hesitation.

Dr G N Shekar, Vice Principal, BMS College of Engineering, said that voting is our democratic right which should not be avoided. While voting we must choose a leader who will be accountable, responsible and who will work for the development of our City. “Less than 50 per cent of Bangaloreans voted last time during the BBMP polls and then we complain of potholes on the roads and traffic which are the biggest concerns in our City today. Unless we participate actively in governance, we will not be able to see a change. We have to vote and make sure everyone who is 18 years and above must go out and vote for the right candidate,” he added.

Beginning at 3:30 pm from the college campus, the rally passed through the main streets of Basavanagudi, including Ramakrishna Ashram, Gandhi Bazar, DVG Road and finally reaching NR Colony before turning back to the BMSCE campus. The participants displayed placards and a street play was performed to create awareness amongst the voters.
