Birth anniversary of Cariappa observed

Deputy Commissioner K H Ashwathanarayana Gowda, Superintendent of Police Manjunath Annigeri, Bharathiya Vidyabhavana Kodagu Vidyalaya head M B Belliappa, students and ex-servicemen offered floral tributes at the tomb of Field Marshal K M Cariappa in the presence of his son retired Air Marshal Nanda Cariappa and daughter Nalini Cariappa.

Prizes of the essay competition on Cariappa organised by the Kodagu Vidyalaya was distributed by Nalini Cariappa on the occasion. Student of St Joseph School Khushi won the first place, while Shiney and Keerthan bagged second and third places respectively.

‘Father’s dream’

Speaking to reporters, Nanda Cariappa recalled that it was his father Field Marshal K M Cariappa’s dreams to spread the message of patriotism among children and youth.

He was always giving emphasis to descipline and punctuality, he added. M B Belliappa said that Cariappa was a patron of Kodagu Vidyalaya. Because of this reason, the institute organise the birth anniversary celebrations every years.

TMC’s homage

Meanwhile, the Madikeri Town Municipality too organised a programme to salute Field Marshal K M Cariappa.

Municipality President P D Ponnappa and Commissioner K Shrikanth Rao offered a garland to the statue of Cariappa.

Similarly, lecturers, students and staff of Field Marshal K M Cariappa College garlanded the statue of Cariappa in the college premises.
