Jewellery store at Vijayanagar robbed at knifepoint

Last Updated 24 October 2015, 18:48 IST

Three unidentified persons posing as customers gained entry into a jewellery store located opposite TTMC in Vijayanagar on Friday evening and made away with gold and diamond ornaments.

The police, quoting the complaint, said that around 7.30 pm, an unidentified person walked into ‘My Kalyan’, a diamond and gold store and asked for a gold chain. While the staff member,  Venugopal, was showing him a few gold chains, two more persons entered the shop.

They flashed a knife and threatened to kill the employee if he tried to raise an alarm. They tied his hand and locked him in a small room.

The trio collected gold and diamond ornaments in a bag and also took away a computer including the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) of the CCTV cameras and fled the spot.

Venugopal managed to untie himself and inform his managers, who rushed to the spot and in turn alerted the police.

No access to CCTV footage
The police have examined the shop and found that the miscreants have made away with the computer, along with the DVR, so that the police would not be able to access the CCTV footage.

The manager told the police that usually two employees work in the store, but on Friday one person was on leave.

Venugopal also told the police that the miscreants were conversing in Kannada and one of them was wearing a  helmet, which means that they had come on a two-
wheeler, said a senior police officer.

Pre-planned act
The CCTV footage from neighbouring buildings are being examined and it looks like it is the handiwork of the persons who had pre-planned the act. Also, the estimated worth of the valuables stolen is being calculated.

“The police will question Venugopal to get more details. We cannot rule out the possibility of the involvement of someone known to the employee,” added the police officer.

A case has been registered in Vijayanagar police station and investigation is being carried out.
