Children, individuals and associations from across the State, who were selected for awards for their various contributions, were honoured on the occasion of Children’s Day at Jawahar Bal Bhavan, on Saturday.

Ten-year-old Siddesh M hailing from Avaragere, Davanagere, was honoured for risking his life to save passengers travelling in the Harihara – Chitradurga Passenger train. On March 15, 2015, Siddesh noticed cracks on the railway tracks near Avaragere Township. On seeing an oncoming train, he quickly removed his red shirt and starting waving at the train, thus, averting a probable accident.

Like Siddesh, 11-year-old Siya Vamanasa Khoday from Dharwad saved the life of her younger brother, Kumara Yallappa. Yallappa was playing on the terrace and got an electric shock after coming in touch with a live wire. Both the awardees received a cash prize each of Rs 10,000, memorabilia, a certificate and a medal.

Along with this, four organisations and four individuals working for the welfare of children were felicitated. The following are the awardees: Ranga Kahale (Bengaluru), Belagavi Roller Skating Akademi (Belagavi), Samruddhi Charitable Trust (Bidar) and Sneha Sadana (Mangaluru), K Prabha Narayanagowda (Chikkaballapur), Parampalli Narasimha Aital (Udupi), Ismail Moulasab Ukkali (Vijayapura) and Mehaboob Killedar (Koppal).
