Lok Adalat settles 93,812 pending, 17,18,582 pre-litigation cases

 As many as 93,812 pending cases and 17,18,582 pre-litigation cases were settled across the various courts in the State as part of the National Lok Adalat in the State.

Also, 1,149 cases were settled in the Lok Adalat held at the High Court of Karnataka.
According to an official release from the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, the National Lok Adalat was held in the State from November 1 to December 12, 2015, as per the directions of the National Legal Services Authority.

All cases including compoundable criminal cases, civil suits, revenue matters, railway claims, motor vehicles accident claims, bank loans recovery, electricity and water disputes were taken for disposal.

‘Encourage settlement’

In a programme organised in this regard on Saturday, Justice V Gopala Gowda, Judge, Supreme Court of India, stressed the need for encouraging settlement of cases.

On the occasion, he also urged the State government to implement the Supreme Court’s directions on ensuring toilet facilities in government schools in rural areas.

He added that if the government failed to do so, the High Court could take it up on suo motu basis and file a contempt of court case against the government in this regard.

Successful

Justice Subhro Kamal Mukerjee, Acting Chief Justice High Court of Karnataka and Patron-in-Chief, Karnataka State Legal Services Authority said legal services institutions across the State were successful in bringing about settlement of cases and the the statistics of the cases settled were there for all to see.
