With just three months left for the current fiscal year to end, in March, In-charge Secretary of Mysuru district M R Kamble, on Tuesday, directed the officials to take measures to utilise the funds, sanctioned by the government, within the deadline.

Presiding over the progress review meeting of various development works, held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here, Kamble cautioned the officials against lapse of funds. To ensure utilisation of funds, the officials should submit the bills of works to the treasury before March 15, instead of waiting till March 31, 2016. Otherwise, there will be a cut in target while sanctioning funds for various works in the next financial year. The officials should take up the responsibility to meet both financial and geographical targets, he added.

Regretting that the officials are showing scant concern for effective implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Kamble directed the officials concerned to create awareness among the people and ensure employment for them. Besides, new works have to be taken up under the scheme, as it is intended to empower the labour community in rural areas.

Priority should be given for implementation of welfare programmes under SC and ST schemes, as the government has earmarked special funds under Scheduled Caste Programme (SCP) and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP). In case of failure, accountability will be fixed and officials will be punished in accordance with law.

The official also instructed the Health and Family Welfare department to take precautionary measures to check the spread of epidemics in rural and urban parts of the district. The doctors should understand their responsibilities and create awareness about the facilities without harassing the target group.

Progress of works taken up by Zilla Panchayat, Departments of Food and Civil Supplies, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (Cesc) Limited, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) were also reviewed during the meeting.
