Kejri waives off pending water bills

On the first anniversary of his government, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal opened his purse strings and announced a mega scheme for waiver of water bill dues giving a much-needed relief to Delhiites on Sunday.

Taking questions, along with his cabinet minister, at a live phone-in event, Kejriwal underscored his government’s free medicine programme, odd-even scheme and focus on education sector. He also highlighted that it is for the first time in five years that there was no electricity tariff hike in 2015.

While Kejriwal was giving a report card on his government’s performance to the public, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party staged a protests observing a ‘black day’ on Sansad Marg.

The chief minister announced slab-wise outstanding water bills waiver scheme for domestic consumers and bulk water connections like Group Housing Societies, DDA colonies and NDMC area. “The scheme is for slab-wise waiver on accumulated arrears and 100 per cent waiver on late payment surcharge till November 30, 2015. The scheme will be applicable to those who have functional water meters,” the government said. The government has given a 100 per cent waiver on principal demand to colonies belonging to ‘E’, ‘F’, ‘G’ and ‘H’ categories. About 50 per cent waiver to colonies belonging to ‘C’ and ‘D’ categories, and 25 per cent waiver to ‘A’ and ‘B’ category colonies.
