Former bureaucrat and writer Manu Baligar is all set to be the 25th president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
Though official declaration of the results is yet to happen, Baligar has managed to secure a huge lead against his nearest contender Jayaprakash Gowda.
According to sources, Baligar has polled 37,931 votes and Gowda 22,908 votes in the voting held across the State on Sunday. The election recorded a voter turnout of 57.86 per cent. Of the 1,89,048 voters, as many as 1,09,383 voted at 292 polling stations.
The counting of 1,774 postal ballots which were cast by the members staying outside the State will take place on Wednesday. After the counting of the postal ballots, the results will be officially declared the same day. Baligar had worked as director of the Department of Kannada and Culture before his retirement.
He has penned a few books, including anthologies of poetry and short stories, biographies and plays.
