NGO to move HC over anti-corruption bureau

The Janaadhikaara Sangharsha Parishath (JSP), an NGO, on Thursday said it will move the Karnataka High Court to seek clarification on the government order to set up the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

JSP said that the High Court orders, quoted by the State government, had called for immediate measures to strengthen the police wing of the Lokayukta.

“As per the government order dated March 14, disbanding the Lokayukta police force and replacing it with ACB is said to be in compliance with the orders passed by the High Court in Criminal Petitions 5378, 5839 of 2014 and 4230 and 2653 of 2015. We have minutely examined the orders passed in each one of the four cases. There is no scope here for shutting down the Lokayukta police wing. In fact, the High Court had directed that the police wing of Lokayukta should be strengthened,” Adarsh R Iyer of JSP said.

In one of the matters on July 29, 2015, the High Court specifically pointed: Since
delay in respect of any matter breeds corruption of one or the other nature, the government should initiate immediate measures to strengthen the police wing of the Lokayukta.

“Any right thinking citizen will be shocked at the blatant lies of this government. JSP will immediately file an application seeking clarification that it did not direct this government to disband the police wing of Lokayukta. We hope the High Court will come down heavily upon this government for misleading the public,” Adarsh said.
