<p>Delhi University concluded registrations for over 60,000 undergrad seats on Wednesday evening, with over 2.5 lakh students submitting paid applications online. More than 2.9 lakh students had applied last year.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The first cut-off will be issued on June 30, according to the university authorities.This year, DU scrapped the offline registration process and made it mandatory for students to apply through the online admission portal. The registrations began on June 1.<br /><br />The university till Wednesday 5 pm received 3,60,460 applications: 2,50,220 paid applications, 1,29,910 male applicants, 1,20,295 female applicants and 15 applicants in the ‘third gender’ category.<br /><br />“Among all states of country from where the applications are received, Delhi tops with most number of applications i.e. 1,24,940, followed by UP with 50,246, and then by Haryana with 33,766 applications.<br /><br />“Within Delhi, South Delhi districts tops with 21,284 applications. Of the total applications, 10,351 are in sports category and 7,886 are in ECA category,” a DU in a statement said.<br /><br />DU colleges offer up to 5 % ‘supernumerary’ quota to sports and extra-curricular activities (ECA) category students. It means the institutions can admit up to 5 % more students than their sanctioned strength.<br /><br />Among 57 undergraduate courses offered by the varsity, English (Hons) received the maximum 1,15,786 applications, followed by 98,294 applications for BA and 90,195 applications for BA (Hons) Political Science.<br /><br />BCom received 82,090 applications, while 72,996 students applied for BCom (Hons). Science courses like Physics (Hons), Chemistry (Hons) and Mathematics (Hons) received over 60,000 applications each.<br /><br />It was the first time that St Stephen’s College and Jesus and Mary College invited registrations through the DU’s undergrad admission portal. However, being minority institutions, these colleges will continue to have their own admission rules.<br /><br />As per a notice issued by the varsity, the colleges will issue up to 5 cut-offs. Notification for the second and third cut-off list will be issued on July 5 and July 11, respectively.</p>
