'Haven't got chance to showcase my talent to the fullest'

The most challenging part about being an actor is the initial struggle, hard work and working conditions,” says Dheeraj Dhoopar, who is currently seen essaying the role of Prem Bharadwaj in TV serial Sasural Simar Ka.

Born in Delhi, Dhoopar featured in various other television shows, ad films, short films and web series. He started his acting career nearly seven years ago with Maat Pitah Ke Charnon Mein Swarg.

“I was into modelling before that, and the thought of acting was just getting into my head. That is when I got to know about the audition for the show in Mumbai. I got selected, and from there on there has been no looking back. I am doing what I enjoy the most,” he says.

The actor, who has also featured in shows like Behenein and Mrs Tendulkar, says that “shooting for a daily soap drains you out physically and emotionally”. However, he is quick to add that “I love my work, and I would always want to do something I love”.

“I always wanted to become a ramp model and started off doing that. Whilst I was actively involved in modelling, I slowly developed a liking towards acting and realised that it would eventually help my modelling career. So acting slowly grew up on me. I believe that acting was always there but it took a little time for me to realise it,” he tells Metrolife.

While he agrees that actors increasingly get typecast in the industry, Dhoopar says that the only way to stand out is through one’s “work and talent”.

“If you are good at something, you will stand out no matter what. I also believe that there is no substitute for hard work. Being down to earth is also very important,” he says.

Dhoopar, who now plans to try his luck in Bollywood, has been meeting producers and filmmakers. Ask him the kind of role he would like to essay, and he says, “I don't have a particular kind of role in mind, yet but I’m eagerly waiting to be a part of a love story. I feel versatility is my asset, and I have not got the chance to showcase my talent to the fullest. So, a love story tobegin with, and then may be some biopic and a film on the underworld.”
