JD(S) releases 40 more names

Last Updated 12 March 2010, 19:50 IST

This takes the total number of nominations announced to 150. JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy said there was an intense competition for constituencies like Yeswantpur, Dasarahalli and other areas and the names would be announced after another round of talks with all the aspirants.

He said JD(S) was keen on nominating people who have served the party loyally and had worked hard rather than taking caste equation into consideration. He criticised the State administration’s handling of the power situation and said that despite pretending to be interested in courting industries aggressively to set up their bases in the State, the Government could not even supply adequate power to the industries.

On coalitions with the Communist and other small parties, Kumaraswamy said the party has an open mind, but the chances of forming a coalition are less.

He also stressed the JD(S) would be nominating women in constituencies, other than those exclusively reserved for them. As of now, 10 women have been nominated in areas, that are not reserved for women.

Nominations

On the third day of filing nominations the State Election Commission (SEC) had a busy day, with 679 candidates filing a total of 924 applications.
