New Qazi takes charge

The post of the Dakshina Kannada Qazi was lying vacant for the past one month following the death of the then Qazi C M Abdulla Musliar Chembarikka, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances.

Addressing the gathering after taking charge as the new Qazi at the Zeenath Baksh Central Jumma Masjid at Bunder in Mangalore, Twakha Ahmed Musliar reassured his responsibility of continuing with the secular credentials of the community and the region.

“The Zeenath Baksh Central Jumma Masjid, which was Malik-ud-din Dinar earlier, has maintained a secular tradition for the past several years, and now we have the responsibility of continuing with the tradition by taking other people into confidence,” he observed.

Speaking on the occasion, Syed Hyder Ali Shihab Tangal Panakkad appealed the community members to uphold the principles of brotherhood and unity. He wished that the new Qazi would provide an able leadership to the people of the region. Bambrana Mudarris Abdul Khader Musliar spoke on the significance of the post of the Qazi. Prior to this, foundation stone was laid for an Arabic School. Kasargod district Qazi T K M Bawa Musliar presided over the function. The Central Masjid Committee Chairman Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, MLA U T Khader, Muslim religious heads K P Abdul Jabbar Musliar, P M Ibrahim Musliar Bekala, N P M Zainul Abidin Tangal, V K Aboobakkar Musliar, Ibrahim Darimi, Abdul Khader Saheb, B Ahmed Moideen, K S Mohammed Masood, Y Mohammed Kunhi, C A Muhammed Shafi and former mayor K Ashraf were present on the occasion.
