Siliconn City
Kannada (A)***
Cast: Srinagar Kitty, Chikkanna, Suraj Gowda, Ashok, Kavya Shetty, Ekta Rathod, Thulasi, Giri
Director: Murali Gurappa

Murali Gurappa’s directorial debut Siliconn City is a faithful remake of Tamil film Metro. It speaks of how Bengaluru, turning into Silicon City, has trigged lifestyle aspirations among middle class youth who want to lead a lavish life to impress their girlfriends.

The film shows how the erstwhile Pensioner’s Paradise turns into a Crime City with serial chain-snatching incidents making it unsafe for women.

Gurappa, a computer science engineer, is bang on as he addresses the anxiety of GenX who goes after fast bikes and latest mobiles, taking to crime. The director, however, turns it into a glorified crime drama, much to one’s misgivings.

The film revolves around a happy middle-class family comprising Sanjay, working in an ad agency, his college-going brother Karthik, retired constable dad Ramaswamy and mom Savithri. Everyone dreams of Karthik becoming a cop, but he dashes their hopes by joining a chain-snatching gang to meet the demands of his girlfriend.

The film is also a retributive drama where Sanjay, along with bosom buddy Raveesha, takes to tracking assailants of his mother on the eve of his wedding with colleague Prerna.

Kitty, who has co-produced the film, does a delectable job as existentialist Sanjay. Kavya Shetty as Kitty’s love interest is adequate. Ashok and Thulasi do fair job in parental roles.
