The officials took up an encroachment clearance drive and evicted many shops that had encroached upon the government lands, on Ratha Beedi at Nanjangud in Mysuru district on Friday.

Acting on a complaint that the authorities concerned have not taken up any works related to asphaltation of the road in view of the festival, during a preliminary meeting of the Doddajatre, last week, the DC had directed the officials to take necessary measures in this regard.

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep inspected the road and directed the officials concerned to take necessary measures.

The officials, who marked the places since four days, began the clearance drive on Friday and cleared the encroachments on the Ratha Beedhi from the old Police station on either side of the temple.

Five excavators are used and the drive continued even after dusk. CMC Commissioner Vijay, Tahsildar Dayanand and PWD AE Madanmohan were present. Police personnel were deployed as a precautionary measure.
