AICC president Rahul Gandhi conducted a 35-km long roadshow from Tikota to Vijayapura as part of the second leg of the Janaashirvada Yatra of the party on Saturday.

Rahul rode a specially designed bus from Tikota to Vijayapura. Party workers and supporters had gathered at road intersections to greet the Gandhi scion. All thoroughfares in Vijayapura were decorated with arches, party flags and a large number of flex boards.

Party supporters also showered flower petals on Rahul when he waived at them along the roads. At some places, he alighted from the vehicle and greeted the people. Women and children too had gathered in large numbers. Police had a tough time controlling the crowds, who tried to shake hands with Rahul.

Addressing a corner meeting at Gandhi Chowk, Gandhi criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his false assurances and not providing jobs to the youth, though he had claimed that he would create two crore jobs annually.

Chief Minister Siddaramiah, party leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge, MP K H Muniyappa, District Minister M B Patil, Energy Minister D K Shivakumar, KPCC chief G Parameshwara and others accompanied him.

Police resorted to mild caning to control the mobs attempting to come close to Rahul.

The heritage city witnessed people from all walks of life lining the roads to have a glimpse of Rahul.
