US envoy floored by Super 30

Terming it a great initiative to bring about change, Hussain said: “Once I get back to the US, I will tell President Obama about the school. I am really touched to see the institute has done so well over the years.”

Hussain met Anand and his team as well as the successful students of Super 30. Accompanied by Clinton Brown, Consul for Political-Economic Affairs, US Consulate, Kolkata, he also took questions from the students and answered them freely. “I am proud to be with a distinguished group of brilliant students. President Obama will also love to see the institute,” he said, when asked if the US President would pay a visit to the school during his proposed visit to India in November this year.

Conceptualised in 2002, the novel initiative has helped 212 students clear the IIT-JEE in the last eight years. And for the last three years, all the 30 students of the institute have made it to the IITs. What is remarkable about Super 30 is that most of the successful candidates have been from the underprivileged sections of society, many of them being first generation learners.
